On 03 June 2023, Sinhala and Tamil newspapers reported that persons involved in the operations of a fraudulent office in close proximity to Department of Motor Traffic had been arrested. Divaina and Thinakaran mentioned that a woman was among the 3 persons who were arrested. This was discriminatory reporting because women were highlighted in negative contexts. However, Lankadeepa, Veerakesari and Dinamina did not mention that a woman was among those who were arrested, thereby refraining from discriminating against women in their reporting. On 12 June Dinamina and Lankadeepa reported on a road accident that had occurred between a trishaw and a van. Both papers highlighted that the driver was a woman.en_US
