On May 11, 2023, Aruna newspaper published an editorial related to the difficulties faced by foreign tourists travelling in Sri Lanka. The title and the content of the editorial used the derogatory term "Sudda" (සුද්දා) in multiple instances to refer to foreigners based on their skin colour, despite also using correct terms "Wideshikaya" (විදේශිකයා) and "Sancharakaya" (සංචාරකයා). Media is discouraged from using such derogatory terms to refer to foreign nationals.en_US
