On April 16, 2023 two newspapers Sathi Aga Aruna and Sunday Mawbima reported on an incident where an elementary school teacher was killed. In these reportages both newspapers highlighted the appearance of the teacher using the term "Roomath" (රූමත්) when it was irrelevant to the context of the news. Usage of such terms in media reporting can contribute towards sexual objectification of women.en_US
