On 14th February 2024, the Lankadeepa editorial discussed an incident in Puthukkudiyiruppu where a mother tragically died by suicide. In this editorial, they described her decision as "foolish" and attributed it to a "weak mind," asserting that such an act is unjustifiable under any circumstances. This language may contribute to the stigmatisation of survivors of suicide attempts and individuals who have died by suicide, further marginalising vulnerable individuals. Additionally, the editorial failed to include suicide prevention helplines, violating media ethics guidelines.en_US
