    Abstract
On 11 March 2023, Rupavahini, TV Derana, Sirasa, Swarnawahini, Hiru TV, Siyatha TV reported on a baby who was found on a train. This post identifies different ways in which the TV channels reported the incident, focusing on three aspects: 1. identity reveal of the parents, 2. showing the confession clip of the mother, and 3. reporting the news in a sensational manner. ITN revealed the identity of parents before the completion of investigations thus did not comply with media ethical guidelines. TV Derana, Rupavahini, Hiru TV and Siyatha TV showed the confession clip of the mother while TV Derana, Rupavahini and ITN reported the news in a sensational manner without complying with media ethical guidelines. Sirasa and Swarnavahini were the only channels that reported the incident in an ethical manner.
