On 25 September 2024, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya was introduced as "මෙනෙවිය," a term denoting women's marital status, on TV Derana, Hiru TV, ITN, and Rupavahini's main news broadcasts, and on 26 September 2024 in Lankadeepa and Dinamina newspapers. In contrast, Divaina newspaper and Siyatha, Swarnavahini, and Sirasa television channels did not use this term for the Prime Minister. It is commendable that these media outlets avoid terms that highlight only women's marital status.
